With its spectacular coastline and unspoilt beaches, rolling hills with magnificent views, green countryside, historic buildings and welcoming pubs, the island makes a great location to explore on foot. Try the West Wight Heritage Trail (leaflets available from tourism centres). You can also visit the Slow Wight Travel Guide and Isle of Wight National Trust which have some great downloadable walks – as well as a map and full directions the trails include information on local history, nature or wildlife. Beautifully illustrated trail maps are also available from Gift to Nature. Please take care and follow the Countryside Code.

The Isle of Wight is a cycling paradise that is home to some of the UK’s most varied terrain: lush velvet hills rolling into the sea, narrow lanes through tidy hedgerows, deep and mysterious green gullies, and the island’s most striking feature, the ridge of white chalk cliffs stretching across its breadth.
There are more than 500 miles of bridleways and cycle paths plus many hundreds more of quiet lanes, so the Isle of Wight is a year-round cycling haven.

It’s a fabulous mixed bag of beaches in the West Wight with everything you need for a great day out. From surfing and fossil hunting at Compton to exploring the caves by kayak at Freshwater to enjoying the sandy beaches at Colwell Bay.

As soon as you think about the Isle of Wight, the iconic image of the world-famous Needles chairlift immediately springs to mind, transporting guests from the cliff-top above Alum Bay down to the beach below. So, grab a bird’s eye view of the multi-coloured sand cliffs of Alum Bay and the stunning turquoise waters that stretch as far as the eye can see.
In the summer season, the Needles light up the skies with their famous firework shows. Times and dates announced on their social media pages and website, weather depending.
